Osama bin Laden's compound is destroyed →
ABBOTTABAD, Pakistan—Pakistan pushed ahead Sunday with its surprise demolition of the compound where U.S. commandos killed Osama bin Laden last year, likely an attempt to erase the symbol of the colossal security failure that humiliated the nation and severely damaged ties with Washington.

Airport VIP lounges
Well, I must be in an extra-bitchy mood today, but sheesh, the idea that airport VIP lounges are supposed to offer one some peace and quiet away from the hubbub of the public waiting areas is completely destroyed by idiots who think these are their private spaces and then start yakking on their cell phones. In fact, it’s actually worse than the public areas because the overall noise there...

guardian: This is shocking —>A bus driver who used his bus like a ‘weapon’ to knock a cyclist to the ground has been jailed for 17 months, a court official said. Gavin Hill was shown on CCTV in an exchange with cyclist Phillip Mead before he lurched the bus sharply into the cyclist’s path, throwing him from his bike 17 months? That’s it? Shouldn’t using a lethal weapon be...

–  Orson Welles (via missfolly) Which is why you don’t let actors talk about physics. Clearly Welles had never heard of the Bernoulli family or Leonhard Euler. Bernoulli’s Principle explains air flow inside carburetors and over wings, and Euler’s calculations led to accurate longitude tables....

Classical music lovers, download this app
WRR 101.1 FM is the second oldest commercially-operated radio station in the United States and broadcasts classical music 24 hours a day (well, except for Dallas city council meetings, because the station is owned by the city). In a world with fewer and fewer classical music outlets, you can listen to WRR any time, anywhere with its app, available for free from either the iTunes App Store or the...

DailyNK: N. Koreans who failed to cry after Kim...
koreanewsline: Those extravagant displays of “grief” in Pyongyang following the death of Kim Jong-il included many people who, despite their best efforts, couldn’t conjure up any actual tears. DailyNK quotes a source in North Hamkyung province on the apparent fate of some of those subpar thespians: “The authorities are handing down at least six months in a labor-training camp to anybody who...

Random thought
I don’t think that Kim Jong-il was seen as such a cartoonish character before Team America was released, so I guess we have to thank Trey Parker and Matt Stone for that, yes? (And thank them too, I suppose, for the entire generation of Americans who know nothing about Kim except as a much-lampooned caricature.)
